How to Add a Strava Overlay to Your Own Photo

A map on a grey background tells people you ran. Your photo with the stats on top tells them what the run felt like. Here is how to add a Strava overlay to your own photo.

The method

  1. Choose the photo. A shot from the run, the start line, the view at the top or the post-run coffee.
  2. Create a transparent overlay of the run. It needs to show your stats with no background, so the photo shows through.
  3. Layer it on top. In an Instagram Story, paste the overlay over your photo. To post somewhere else, save the finished image to your camera roll.

Doing it with ClubRun

Import the run from Strava or Apple Watch, choose a design and map style, and recolour it to suit the photo. Then copy the transparent layer to paste into a Story, or save it to your camera roll to combine with any photo, for Instagram, TikTok, Reels or anything else.

Picking a photo that works with an overlay

  • Leave space. Shots with sky, road or track give the stats room to breathe.
  • Go for contrast. Light stats on a dark photo, or dark stats on a bright one.
  • Movement wins. Mid-stride, blurred backgrounds and finish-line arms beat a static selfie.
  • Keep it honest. Real stats on a real photo are the whole point. ClubRun never changes your numbers.
